7-4 Physical Education Project

Physical Education Project

Hello parents and guardians,

My name is Claudia Turcotte and I am your child’s gym teacher. Since the beginning of the year, I have been trying to find fun activities to do during our Fitness Friday session. Those periods are only 33 minutes and we often don’t have time to go outside and or to gather materials. During my research, I found an original idea that will engage students and in which they will have to be creative, cooperative, and use refined movement skills.

The project was positively received by students. They will be creating sports performance videos in the style of Dude Perfect’s trick shot videos. Throughout the school year, students will learn different skills related to throwing balls (ping-pong, tennis, golf, soccer, basketball,...) using bats & sticks (baseball, hockey, cricket, …), rackets ( tennis, badminton, ping-pong, …) frisbees, and many more. This project will give them many situations to develop the skills related to the practice of physical activities. This project will be completed during our Friday Phys. Ed. periods and under my supervision. Students will receive a mark at the end of this project for stems related to skills and cooperation. They are encouraged to make their tricks as original and creative as they can.

Parents who have questions or don’t want their child to be in the final video montage can contact me by email at claturcottebarabe@cbe.ab.ca. No student will be penalized for not being in the video sequence.

If you want to see an example of student work, you can watch that video that was made with grade 8s in 2017. The final project could look like this :  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXyHi-qkYxg

Thank you,

Claudia Turcotte

This week grades 5-9 started their fitness testing modules. Students will go through several activities to test their cardiovascular ability, flexibility, agility, and muscular strength. For each test, students will set goals and record their results on a fitness card. They can watch their abilities progress throughout the year and set new goals during each fitness module.
