Updates from the PE team

Hello everyone. We hope you and your family are well. With everything going on, we will posting updates on the blog.

In the meantime, it is important to stay active for your physical and mental health. While at home, you can do the body weight exercises we did in class, that do not require equipment.

Some examples include: Lunges, Squats, Jumping Jacks, Sit Ups, Tuck Jumps, Mountain Climbers, Walking up and down the stairs, Burpees, Planks, Tricep Dips (using a chair), Push Ups, and so many more that you already know!

Don't forget about getting outside (when weather permits, of course)!
Some examples include: Go for a walk, Play catch (respect social distancing standards), Walk your dog, Shovel the driveway or Shovel your neighbour's driveway.

I'm sure your parents wouldn't mind if you cleaned the house either :)

Take care and be active!

March 2-6

Grades 7 + 8
This week both grades had 1 Period in Wrestling with a Wrestling Coach that Ms. Hidalgo brought in. The students learned the basic rules for wrestling and a simple take down before actively "Wrestling" with a partner. They seemed to really enjoy this class so feel free to have them show you what they learned! The other few days we had were in our Human Sexuality Unit. This upcoming week we will finish our Human Sexuality Unit and move into a day of DPA (Daily Physical Activity) where students will have the choice of what they would like to do, and then we will start our Badminton Module as well.

Feb 24-28

Hidalgo 5-9 PE
Last week, students got to practice their tennis skills with a fun day of singles and doubles play. The highlight of the week was our classes of combative games! This was a warm up to our wrestling week, starting on Monday. We are lucky enough to have a wrestling coach for Team Alberta and the University of Calgary team come practice with us!

9-4 will start their Human Sexuality unit on Monday. They were given parent forms last week.
