Jan 27- 30

Hidalgo PE 5-9 

This week we finished our Broomball module. The weather was great and we were able to play outside. Next week, students have the opportunity to get instructions from the Alberta Tennis Centre. When they are not playing tennis they will be doing a Health unit.

Jan 20 -24

Hidalgo PE 5 - Students finished their table tennis module this week. They then started a Fitness module which will continue next week.


Hidalgo PE 6-7 - Students started a broomball module outside, now that the weather is finally better. Please remember to wear appropriate winter clothing next week!


Hidalgo PE 9 - Grade 9 began their basketball module this week with a focus on dribbling. They will work on shooting and game play next week.

Thalheimer Jan 20-24

Grade 7 + 8
This week we went outside all week and played Broomball. It is a Hockey Alternative using a weighted rubber ball and a modified broomstick with a plastic triangular at the base that issued to bat the ball. The focus was to keep the kids moving and stay warm while outside! We are moving into our 2nd Fitness Unit and we will be in the Fitness Center working out!

9.2
This week we finished our Table Tennis Module which was a lot of fun! We learned the basic rules of Doubles Table Tennis with an emphasis on trying to keep a rally going before moving into Game Play. Next week we will be going outside for Broomball so please come prepared for the weather and have a toque, gloves along with a jacket and be ready to go outside! 

9.3
This week we finished our Table Tennis Module which was a lot of fun! We learned the basic rules of Doubles Table Tennis with an emphasis on trying to keep a rally going before moving into Game Play. Thalheimer Jan 13-17

Grades 7 & 8
This week we concluded our Table Tennis Modules that we had started the first week back from the Christmas Break. We then had two extra days that we played Basketball as we were scheduled to go outside but due to the weather we were unable to do so. This coming week with the warmer weather we will be going outside Monday Jan 20 to Wednesday Jan 22 for Broomball. Please remember to come dressed for the weather for these 3 days! 

9.2 + 9.3
The first week back from the Christmas Break we started our Basketball Modules and they concluded Basketball on Tuesday this week. 9.3 started the Table Tennis Module and had two days of Table Tennis this week and this will continue moving into next week. 9.2 had two days of blended class with 9.1 and Ms. Feke and I offered Basketball and Table Tennis and the students chose where they would like to go. 9.2 will begin the Table Tennis Unit on Monday Jan 20. 

Jan 13-17

Hidalgo - Grade 5-8: Students worked on hand-eye coordination this week by playing Table Tennis. We will continue this module next week.


Hidalgo - Grade 9: Students were scheduled to play Broomball outside this week. It was far too cold, so we stayed inside for fitness and hockey. 
**We will be outside next week, so students should come prepared to be outside each day.

Jan 7-10

PE 5-7 Hidalgo
Basketball was the first module we started with this week. We focused on skill development and did several drills and games that aim to improve shooting, passing, ball handling. Next week, students get their chance to practice these skills while playing games.

PE 9 Hidalgo & Feke
Students began this week with table tennis unit and completing a Fitness Friday relay race. Grade 9 practiced how to do an official table tennis serve and worked on keeping a rally going by working with several different partners.

Thalheimer PE 7-9

PE 7-9 Thalheimer

This week the focus was just to have different options each day for students to choose from and have some variety! The multiple game options we had were Basketball. Volleyball, Handball, Gag ball, and 9-square-in-the-air which as been a major hit with the kids! Wen we come back from Christmas Grade 7 & 8 will be doing Table Tennis while both Grade 9 Classes will be starting with Basketball. Have a great holiday break and Merry Christmas!

December 16-19

PE 5-9 Hidalgo
This week students worked collaboratively and got to choose between several activities. There were options, such as, basketball, hockey, volleyball, gagaball and 9-Square-in-the-air.

*One of our units in January will be outside, weather permitting. Students should bring a coat, hat, gloves and boots, so they are comfortable to play broomball outside.

December 9 - 13

Grade 9.1 & 9.2 Feke & Thalheimer:
This week has Sound Kreations teaching some moves so that the students can create their own sweet choreography for Wednesday and Thursday's class.

Grade 5-9 Hidalgo
Last week was the conclusion to our dance unit. We had a dance instructor from Sound Kreations teach us a hip hop dance. All students also created and presented their own dance.

December 1 - 6

9.1 & 9.2 Feke & Thalheimer:
The dance unit has begun and will continue for the next 2 weeks. This unit involves the creation of a dance routine with a group so it is important that all students are present. Sound Kreations will be here as well, next week to help teach the classes some sweet moves!

5-9 Hidalgo
This week we started our dance unit. We learned several dances, such as, Cadillac Ranch, Electric Slide, and Cupid Shuffle and enjoyed classics, like the YMCA and Chicken dance. Next week we have an instructor from Sounds Kreations who will present a combo of dances. Students will also work in a group and create their own dance!

7-9 Thalheimer
The dance unit has begun and will continue for the next 2 weeks. This unit involves the creation of a dance routine with a group so it is important that all students are present. This past week we taught a handfull dances including the Virginia Reel, Hell Toe Polka, Cupid Shuffle among others. Next week we have a dance instructor coming in form Sound Kreations to teach the classes more dances and then the students will be resposible for designing their own dance too!

November 25 - 29

9.1 Feke: Students are finishing up their resume & cover letter on MyBluePrint.ca. This assignment is due Monday 25th. Floor hockey is the next unit we will be covering.

Hidalgo 5 - Students have participated in several different log organized games and were given choices which games interest them.The focus of the week was sportsmanship and teamwork.

Hidalgo 6-8 Students completed floor hockey and tchoukball in the past two weeks. They worked on passing and shooting.

Hidalgo 9 - Students worked on writing a professional resume using the program myblueprint.ca. This is a great resource for students to start planning for the high school, post graduate studies and employment.

November 12 - 15

9.1 Feke began the fun and fast game of Tchoukball. Next week they will be in the classroom working on the health unit involving CHOICES. Along with our student teacher, Mr.Lopez, students will explore MYBLUEPRINT to create resumes, cover letters and to learn more about who they are as a learner, and future employee!

8-9 Shewfelt: This week, students worked through various components of fitness during their fitness module. Students were introduced to cardiovascular conditioning, muscular strength and muscular endurance conditioning, as well as flexibility. Students learned proper techniques and movement skills during resistance training. This was a great week despite some sore muscles! Students enjoyed yoga and meditation at the end of each session this week as well!

Grade 7 and 9 Health Shewfelt- 7.1 and 9.3 completed a week of health this week. Grade 9's were focusing of life and learning skills. They navigated through MyBlue Print website, and built their capacity for resume writing. Grade 7's worked through their first unit of Health "Wellness Choices" We discussed the importance of sleep, limiting screen time, body image, nutrition and healthy relationships.For grade 9's in Health: Please see the below information for writing resumes.
